Mark Piaia is a Principal in the Los Angeles office with over 40 years of professional experience. Growing up in the Midwest, he was exposed to many works by Frank Lloyd Wright, but it was the design of the Milwaukee Art Museum by Eero Saarinen that served as his primary architectural inspiration. Since then, Mark has worked on a broad range of projects and building types, including educational, corporate, civic, cultural, and other mixed-use projects, as well as adaptive reuse of historic facilities. He has also been involved in numerous high-performance academic projects where he was responsible for the technical review and document coordination of all design phases, with a primary focus on code compliance. As a senior technical architect, Mark helps to lead ZGF’s Quality Management Program to ensure quality, consistency, and accuracy of project documentation across the various offices and has been involved with creating firmwide Revit standards. Highlights from his tenure with ZGF include the Department of General Services, Air Resources Board, Southern California Consolidation Project; the J. Craig Venter Institute La Jolla; the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation Headquarters; the Soka University of America, Performing Arts Center and Wangari Maathai Hall; and the Judicial Council of California, Superior Court of California, County of Santa Clara, Family Justice Center Courthouse.
