At its annual Chapter Design Awards, AIA|DC recognized ZGF’s design of 1200 Seventeenth with and Excellence Award. The 170,000 SF, 11-story office building, located at the northern edge of the central business district in Washington, DC, was lauded for its unique exterior detail.
Featuring a detailed glazed terra-cotta and stainless steel façade, juxtaposed against a modern glass tower, the 1200 Seventeenth visually links two distinct neighborhoods and reflects the material palette and texture of each environment. The awards jury commented that “The terracotta gives the building scale, it gives it a shadow line, and it creates a contrast with the glass. If you look at the building as a whole, the terracotta makes it stand out from others we saw.”
This year’s awards program honored 38 projects—selected from 185 submissions from across the country—representing outstanding examples of architecture, interior architecture, historic resources, and urban design / master planning.
Architect Magazine highlighted the 10 projects that were recognized with excellence awards for their design ingenuity.
