ZGF embraced the extreme and often harsh conditions of Phoenix, Arizona when conceiving the design for The University of Arizona Cancer Center. The result is a high-performance building in the desert climate of Phoenix, serving as a therapeutic refuge for cancer patients that, to quote the Architectural Record feature story linked below, “…brings the look and feel of a hotel to a cancer center through the lavish use of travertine and copper, along with desert plantings.”
“Everyone is under stress in a cancer center,” said Doss Mabe, a design partner at ZGF. “We wanted to provide a shelter in the desert.”
