The ZGF designed J. Craig Venter Institute La Jolla has been honored with the COTE Top Ten Green Project Award by the American Institute of Architects (AIA). “The jury was impressed with how this project achieved net zero for a lab. The building was well crafted from materials well suited for the marine location. Interior spaces and the courtyard were well daylit. The program connected the labs and offices across an exterior courtyard.”
The 44,607 SF building is comprised of laboratory, technical, and office / administrative space above a partially below-grade parking structure. In response to the client’s challenge to have a building that generates more energy than it consumes, the LEED Platinum® facility has been designed with a net-zero energy footprint, and is one of the greenest buildings in the country.
