Maebashi City Recognized with Prestigious Ministry of Land Award

We’re thrilled to announce that the Maebashi City Ecodistrict Vision plan in the Gunma Prefecture, Japan was named recipient of the prestigious 2020 Ministry of Land Award. ZGF, along with our partner architect Ishii Sekkei, engaged in a robust community engagement effort to develop a regenerative urbanism concept for the 70 hectares surrounding Maebashi’s historic city center.

Dialogue among residents identified catalytic projects in support of economic, environmental and social objectives. New connections to the city’s river via continuous pedestrian and bike pathways as well as investments in autonomous transit, green infrastructure, and balance of daytime and nighttime activities will support the city’s goal of a more active and vital public realm.

Congratulations to the project team.
