The Architecture, Engineering, and Construction (AEC) community is on a precipice. As the movement for product transparency gains momentum and consumer awareness increases, a growing number of clients are requesting healthier products and materials.
ZGF has long supported improved product and material transparency as part of our firm ethos of sustainability. We design environments with a focus on reducing waste, improving air quality, and increasing efficiency. Yet today, many manufacturers do not disclose the ingredients they use, making it difficult for building-industry professionals to help discern the healthiest options. Considering that the average building is comprised of thousands of products, each with a different chemical composition, product specification has become increasingly complex.
Today, we are proud to support the next step in closing the loop on product transparency with the Materials Pledge. The Materials Pledge is an open letter to the manufacturing community with 56 signatory firms coming together to declare their intent to design and construct with holistically optimized materials.
