ZGF worked with Legacy Good Samaritan Medical Center staff to design improvements to the 16,364 SF emergency department, which provides 24-hour emergency medical care. The remodel improves work flow and staff efficiency through implementation of Lean principles, gives clarity and identity to points of entry and arrival at the emergency department, and provides a peaceful and supportive interior environment that enhances the quality of the emergency department experience for patients, staff and visitors. The redesigned interior is sensitive to the unique requirements of an aging population and patients with special needs. Right-sizing the patient care spaces and the supporting infrastructure gives the department the flexibility to adapt to change and growth over time. In addition to the interior remodel, ZGF designed a new exterior canopy and site improvements for the entry, enhancing the emergency department’s street presence and visual identify at the existing entry to the hospital.
