After ZGF designed Perkins Coie’s Pearl District office in 2003, the firm approached ZGF again in 2012 to embark on a planning and design process that would consolidate and refresh their existing space. Filling three and a half floors, this 21st-century modern office features refined detailing, high-end finishes and classic furnishings. The space features many materials that are unique for a law office, such as terrazzo floors and metal and glass panels. An open stair at the reception area connects all four levels and facilitates communication among attorneys and staff. To maximize the amount of natural light in the building, a skylight was added at the top of the stairwell.
Completed in November 2015, the office update includes new assistant stations designed in a “team” configuration that support greater interaction and include more ergonomic features. Full height glazing at perimeter attorney offices was added to extend views and increase light into internal spaces. The conference center was completely updated with newly integrated technology and furniture along with updated finishes and high-efficiency LED lighting throughout. An informal, active library space was designed to encourage more collaboration and socialization along with alternative quiet work areas located at stair landings with wonderful Portland views.
