Located in Portland, Oregon’s Pearl District, the new 9-story Portland Proper Hotel is expected to open in 2021, providing 226 guest rooms in heart of Portland’s historic Pearl District.
The 170,00 SF building will include below-ground parking, a ground floor lobby, and event and amenity spaces. Large archways on the ground floor will highlight the interior, inviting pedestrians to join community activities hosted at the hotel event space, or enjoy a drink or dinner at the ground floor restaurant. The 9th floor of the hotel will house a restaurant and bar, kitchen, outdoor pool, and terrace. Interiors will be designed by Kelly Wearstler Interior Design.
The main entrance to the hotel is planned for Irving Street, where arched windows along the length of the block take their cues from many historical masonry arches found around the greater Portland area. The hotel uses brick as a primary building material. Operable windows in each guest room to provide ventilation and comfort while referencing the industrial architecture of the Pearl District. The simple massing of the building and textured façade also complements the surrounding ethos of rehabilitated masonry buildings, industrial lofts and loading docks – all turned to modern restaurants and storefronts.
Along 13th street where the hotel restaurant opens to the public, metal canopies detailed with suspension cables provide both an authentic industrial feel and rain cover for diners.
