ZGF is collaborating with Wexford Science + Technology, the University City Science Center, and Ventas on the revitalization of the Market Street corridor in West Philadelphia. One uCity Square lies at the heart of uCity Square—a mixed-use development located between Drexel University, the University of Pennsylvania, and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, and provides a space of intersection between research, development, and industry.
One uCity will provide 498,000 SF of multi-tenant space for research laboratories and offices. The building will include one level of retail at grade and 14 levels of office and laboratory spaces embedded in a network of state-of-the-art research and medical facilities in the area. Overlooking the plaza, One uCity provides an opportunity for public visibility, shaping the visual identity of the area. The southern façade hosts the primary entry lobby, directly off the plaza. Terraces are carved out of the southeastern corner of the building and are connected to amenities spaces across various floors. The life of the building becomes visible to the community by exposing the social activity within One uCity. The building is registered with the certification goal of LEED Silver®.
Over the next decade, uCity Square will grow to include an additional 4,000,000 SF of laboratory, office, retail, residential, and shared public space—growing the innovation district to a total of 6,500,000 SF spanning 11 city blocks. ZGF was an integral part of the uCity Square master planning team, leading the massing, programming, and conceptual design for all commercial, office, and laboratory space. ZGF has also designed and constructed 3711 Science Center, 3737 Science Center, and 3675 Market.
