ZGF Wins AIA COTE Top Ten Award for PAE Living Building

Sustainability June 10, 2024

ZGF has been honored as an AIA 2024 COTE Top Ten Award winner for the design of the PAE Living Building.

Now in its 29th year, the prestigious AIA award program recognizes projects that set the standard for design excellence in ten key areas, including energy, water, well-being, equity, ecosystems, and adaptability to climate change.

The PAE Living Building, located in Portland, Oregon, generates 113% of the energy it needs from solar, captures rainwater for drinking, and screens out hazardous chemicals. As the first developer-led Living Building, and just the 35th Living Building in the world, the project is transforming existing investment models and setting new sustainability benchmarks for the industry.

At the outset of this project we challenged ourselves to achieve something that has never been done before: design a 500-year building that exceeds net zero, is financially replicable, and that positively impacts its surrounding community. We are proud to say that the PAE Living Building has delivered on these aspirations, modeling a path for the industry to achieve the highest levels of sustainable design.
