Kari Thorsen named HCD 10’s Interior Designer of 2017
Healthcare Design Magazine recently named Kari Thorsen its HCD10 Interior Designer of 2017. The annual award honors professionals across 10 categories — ranging from building professional to researcher — to highlight the stars of the healthcare community. Kari was selected as the recipient for her outstanding pediatric- and oncology-focused work inspired by the needs of patients, family and staff.
As highlighted in her September HCD Magazine interview, Kari recounted how a memorable patient interaction informed her design decisions: “Recently a teenage patient shared that she often felt talked over and couldn’t be a part of the care conversation. She asked that patient beds be placed in a direction that allowed her to engage. I hope to find more moments like this to create powerful design solutions that keep patients at the center of care and make them feel like they have a voice.”
