ZGF programmed and designed the 256,000 SF, 80-bed acute-care hospital on a 30-acre site. Through Integrated Design Events with hospital staff and leadership, the project team analyzed areas of waste and implemented a Lean, cross-functional approach to minimize waste and enhance patient-centered care. The process resulted in increased operational efficiency; an example includes a split-flow process for triaging emergency room patients that has reduced the average wait time to approximately 10 minutes. The hospital includes a 24-hour emergency department; medical, surgical, and critical care units; inpatient and outpatient surgery; a heart catheterization laboratory; diagnostic services; physical, occupational, and speech therapies; and a 600 SF chapel. Outside the hospital, walking paths and nature trails throughout the wooded campus adjoin with an existing public pedestrian path and park-and-ride, enabling alternative transportation options for hospital employees, patients, and visitors.
