Portland International Airport Wins Holcim Foundation Award

News October 28, 2025

The Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction has recognized Portland International Airport as a recipient of the 2025 Holcim Foundation Awards.

The world’s most significant competition for sustainable design, the awards celebrate projects showcasing integrated approaches to environmental, social, and economic challenges and setting new and replicable standards for sustainable design and construction.

As noted by Laura Viscovich, Executive Director of the Holcim Foundation, “this year’s 20 winners use the right materials in the right places, bring communities into the process from day one, and design with nature as an ally.”

Phase I of the PDX main terminal renovation and expansion, which features locally sourced materials, including wood sourced from within 300 miles of the airport, opened to passengers in August 2024.
