Flavia Grey
Not many people start their career in mechatronics engineering and wind up in architecture, but that’s exactly what sparked Dr. Flavia Grey’s “aha” moment of connection between the built environment and the human experience. She discovered the positive impact a well-designed space could have on health and wellbeing, productivity, and sustainability, while leading improvement projects for a manufacturing plant. It was the impetus for her master’s degree in sustainable design and construction and subsequent doctorate in civil and environmental engineering, with a research focus on quantifying and modeling the dynamic interaction between buildings and occupants. Today she leads ZGF’s firmwide data strategy practice, championing the use of data-driven solutions to aid in design development, decision making, and performance evaluation across all project types and phases. For Flavia, data is more than just numbers—it’s the key to unlocking our full potential.
